you need to do nothing
A note from you, to you. Nothing is missing and nothing is due. If you catch yourself rushing to do something so you will not have to feel this, just notice how you struggle. You can put it down.
there is nothing to do. this moment is already holding you. it held you before you noticed, and it does not need your help. watch the hands reach for a task, a screen, a fix, anything but the feeling. watch how the reaching aches. set it down. the wanting, the mending, the getting somewhere. the breath already knows how to come and go. you were never behind. you need to do nothing.
Having a hard time doing nothing? Go breathe for a minute, and ground yourself:
- Notice five things you can hear, and five things you can see. Slowly. One at a time.
- Put on something relaxing and let it play. You do not have to listen hard.
- A long slow exhale, a low hum, or cool water on your face. The body knows the way down.
- Go find a cat and listen to it purr. This is a complete activity.
- Go show someone a little love. A message, a hug, a kind word.
- Step outside, or just into another room. Let the new air reset you.
- Including this one.
